There’s a lot of things that one can do to help in the fight against the numerous types of cancer that have hurt so many people over the years and taken so many lives. But one of these ways to help out is to take part in events such as 5K runs that raise money for research and treatment. The “I’m With Mike” 5K run and one-mile walk is one of those events taking place next year in Birmingham, with the date to register opening on December 1. If you’re considering joining up, you can find all of the details on the website, but the run and one-mile walk aims to raise funds for the Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research. According to the CDC, prostate cancer comes with a number of symptoms, including painful/frequent urination, as well as bladder problems and pain in the back, hips and pelvis. It can be fatal and is the second leading cause of death for American men. There are around 150,000 new prostate cancer diagnoses each year. Consider taking some time out to help research for this condition. The prices for entering are $25 for the 5K run and $15 for the one-mile walk. Other events at the run are the “Patient/Survivor Hero” event, which is $15 to $25. There’s also the Kids Dash for $15 and “Doze for Dad” for $25. There will be awards for the top three overall male and female participants, as well as the overall male survivor/patient. The race will take place on June 20 in 2020 at Little Donkey on 2823 Central Avenue in Birmingham.
