Birmingham’s Top Christmas Light Shows and Festive Neighborhoods

Deck the halls, Alabama!

Now that the Thanksgiving leftovers are (mostly) gone, it’s time to think about Christmas and all the fun light displays it brings. And who doesn’t remember driving through the most decorated neighborhoods with their parents to check out the amazing light displays?

If that’s a tradition you want to share with your kids, you’ve come to the right place. We took a look at some of the best spots around Birmingham to visit with your kids this holiday season. We covered all the bases from Roll Tide to Yuletide this year, so get ready to plan your family outing with us.

But first…

It would be remiss of us to not include a message about ladder safety.

We’re a roofing company after all!

So check out these tips for hanging outdoor lights by Lowes. A roof is a dangerous place. If you choose to hang lights on your home this year, follow all the proper safety precautions. Check for frayed wires or loose connections before you get on a ladder. Always practice ladder safety, and be sure your outdoor outlets are all GFCI equipped.

Now that that’s out of the way

Let’s Look at some nearby Christmas Light Shows

Shadrack’s going to be back this year on November 16th with their amazing 3.25 mile long holiday display. This custom light show is sure to amaze the whole family. Just check out this video from a previous year if you have any doubts that this is going to be the best show it town.

Take a walk through the Zoolight Safari

This event at the Birmingham Zoo is always a favorite this time of year. There’s over a million lights throughout the zoo, and it’s a great chance to stretch your legs and get a little light exercise in while your kids enjoy the sights. Definitely consider a trip to the zoo this Christmas season.

It wouldn’t be Christmas in the South without a few tacky light displays!

This charity bus tour takes you to some of the most odd, eccentric and creative light displays in town. Running on December 11th-13th, the Wacky Tacky Christmas Light Tour will set you back $30 for adults or $15 for children.

But ticket sales help send underserved children to the award-winning Gross Out Camp each year. Having fun while helping out! That’s definitely in the holiday spirit, so count me in.

Tune in with the Richardsons

This local family has developed quite the following on Facebook. If you visit their page, you’ll see a few videos from previous years. They put on an amazing show coordinated with music you can listen to on 88.3FM. Just punch in 1813 Arrow Drive Alabaster, AL 35007 on your GPS and enjoy the show. While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the rest of the displays on Arrow Drive. This neighborhood really takes Christmas to the next level each year.

Other Neighborhoods Close to Downtown Birmingham

If you’re still looking for a few more spots to checkout, try going by the Edgewood subdivision in Homewood. Barry Avenue and Edgewood Boulevard both tend to have great light shows each year. You can also visit Mountain Brook and swing through either the Beech Hill subdivision or the Bentley Hill subdivision. Both have amazing light shows your whole family will enjoy. And you’re just a quick hop back over the mountain to get into downtown Birmingham when you’re done.

We hope you found this list helpful! Have fun and make some new memories that you and your kids can look back on with joy for years to come!

From our family to yours, 5 Star Roofing and Restoration is wishing you all the best this holiday season. Stay safe and enjoy some time with loved ones as we close out 2018.
